About the Canadian Writer's Journal

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Where is New Liskeard? (Honest- that's the number one question...)

Links to our area's Attractions through the Tri-Town and District Chamber of Commerce website
weather in Temiskaming Shores (formerly Dymond, Haileybury and New Liskeard)

New Liskeard, (now also called Temiskaming Shores) Ontario Canada is located in a beautiful farming valley located 157 km (two hours driving) north of North Bay or 540 km (six hours driving) north of Toronto, Ontario Canada.

We are still an hour south of the 49th parallel that divides most of the United States and Canada.

It is interesting that age seems to determine which of our other two local landmarks are as recognized. Older folk seem to recognize Cobalt, which is twenty-minutes south of us. Younger folk know where Temagami is, and that's forty-five minutes south of us.

    Our location on the continent

  2. What is the Canadian Writer's Journal?

The Canadian Writer's Journal (CWJ for short) is a digest-sized magazine for writers that has been produced here since we took it over in October 1996. We're very proud of this independent Canadian periodical. We started publishing every other month starting Feb 2001, but ran into a spell of bad health. In 2012, we resume publishing the CWJl.

  3. How old is the Canadian Writer's Journal?

The CWJ was started in 1984 by Ronald Cooke and Mary Alice Daly. When health became an issue, they passed the CWJ to Gordon Smart of Victoria, BC in the fall of 1989. Gordon continued for 7 more years. In October 1996, <i>White Mountain Publications then acquired the Canadian Writer's Journal.

  4. Who runs White Mountain Publications?

    Deborah Ranchuk

Deborah Ranchuk owns the corporation. With a B.A. from Brock University, St. Catharines, ON, her interest in the publishing process has moved the parent company White Mountain Publications into publishing since 1992. On the National Executive for the Canadian Authors Association from 1991 to 2009, (serving as CAA Treasurer 1998-2005, 2006-2009), CAA Sangster Award winner 2003, the tradition of "Writers Helping Writers" hold true especially as senior editor for the Canadian Writer's Journal, she and her staff produce quality books for the English speaking community world-wide as well as the CWJ.
